Imagine…
A simple practice to discover happiness.
Imagine…
you have a home.
Imagine…
you have a person you get to hug.
Imagine…
you have a comfortable bed.
Imagine…
you get to drink clean water.
Imagine…
you can sit in your favourite chair and read a book.
Imagine…
you can savour a warm beverage.
Imagine…
the rain outside while you are sitting comfortably by the window, warm and cosy.
Imagine…
having a healthy and strong body.
Imagine…
taking steps on your own.
Imagine…
opening your eyes and seeing beauty.
Imagine…
feeling the beating of your precious heart.
Imagine…
calling a friend.
Imagine…
waking up, feeling excited about your day.
Imagine…
walking freely on the street.
Imagine…
eating a fresh and juicy red apple.
Imagine…
smiling through your tears.
Imagine…
feeling comfortable on your own.
Imagine…
having enough.
You don’t have to imagine?
Great.
Do you already have those things?
Are you already free? Are you already safe and warm? Are you already fit to move your body?
Do you have a family?
Do you have a country you get to belong to?
Do you have a place you can call home?
Do you have a wireless connection to the world?
Great.
You have everything you need.
You are whole.
You are complete.
You are fortunate.
You have found peace.
No need for searching.
Remember that feeling.
Don’t ever take it for granted.
Whatever you water your plant with, it grows. What is your fertilizer?
Is it love, gratitude, kindness?
You choose what you cultivate your life with. If you lay the foundation of appreciation for your every morning — the sun shining outside your window, relatives you get to hold hands with — your day will always turn out magnificently.
We tend to paint happiness as a golden prize blown out of proportion. When in fact, pure bliss is those small things you get to enjoy daily. You don’t need to acquire more or do more because it’s already there. You just need to open your eyes to not miss out on the joy of everyday life.
We chase happiness relentlessly, looking for it in steady and fancy corporate jobs and luxurious, splendid relationships. You can find comfort and short-lived satisfaction there, but hardly ever experience unconditional joy.
Happiness grows inside you. It’s something you tend to daily through awareness, space for all of your emotions, understanding of your crappy days, and finding meaning in every detail along your journey.
Your happiness is solely dictated by your perception of this world. There is no complicated science behind it.
Enjoy the little things. For one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.
