I Choose Empathy

Even during a teary rainfall

Even during an angry noon

Even beaten by a barrage of hail

Or an emotional flood overwashing all

I Choose Empathy

Even when I cannot sleep

Even when the moon forgot to shine

Even when the sky black-washes its stars

And night regrets begin to creep

I Choose Empathy

Even when it's lonely

Even when they are cold

Even when the rest of the world has forgotten hope

And has succumbed to nihilism and sinistry

I Choose Empathy

Even when I am the last man standing

When I am the last soul shining

Even as my enemies attempt to taunt me

My heartbeats lead steadily even there

With Courage commanding
