I Can See You

A Poem for Loss and the Lost

I can see you

in every drop of water that falls when it rains

I can see you

when I wake up in the night from all of these pains

I can see you

when I bleed these verses from the depth of my veins

But can you see me

because the light that's your life is just starting to wane.

I can see you

in every broken smile that I meet

I can see you

in every car that I pass on the street

I can see you

in the heart of a child who discovers defeat

But can you see me

because the darkness is no longer discreet.

I can see you

with the aura of a funeral shroud

I can see you

when I look for guidance way up in the clouds

I can see you

in my mind when I'm quiet but on the inside I'm screaming out:

Can you see,

you mean so much to me...

You mean so much to me.
