Humans in the Rough
Taking humanity and society back to the beginning.
This world holds 8 billion of us,
and yet too many believe
there is any kind of superiority,
And we are all supposed to be the same.
Centuries of Education,
And we have forgotten
That language is ours,
Ours to create, destroy,
Bend and break,
And yet we use it do just that
To each other.
When this world has broken us
We have taken that pain
And used it to break ourselves.
No longer do people stand up,
Come together when Nature wrongs us.
Now, not only are we wronging her,
We are wronging and damning our own.
We are kings of a world
In which we made ourselves peasants,
Then we mock other peasants
For not being kings.
Since kindness is rare,
And humanity has forgotten,
I shall say this.
We are all people.
Language is arbitrary,
Made up by us
To describe things made up by us.
Pronouns are not gender,
They are made up by us
To describe things made up by us,
Even the binary ones.
Money is made up by us
To purchase things made up by us.
We have one life to live
And we spend it criticizing,
Putting down, killing, brutalizing,
Harming, hurting.
Life is not “just how society is”.
It is not society,
It is morality, it is kindness.
And that is what is lost on us.
And to those few that possess it,
never, ever, lose sight of it.
