Holding
I just can’t forget to give more of my love to this beautiful girl that I’m holding.

It’s 9pm,
I’m looking out at the dark scenery,
Two storeys above,
I can’t get enough
Of these Christmas tunes,
Or words from the pen I’m holding.
.
Tomorrow morning,
Another day for renewing,
Hopped on 202 express,
Or 92 loop, slow is the best
If you have nowhere to go,
I lean against the ledge I’m gripping.
.
But I get off,
On Lester street, where memories
With him still glide
Into my thoughts, I do fight,
All through a lonely day.
Nothing’s warmer than lattes I’m drinking.
.
I want to comfort her,
The girl two years ago, crying,
Her pain was untamed,
Some feelings stay the same
10 years ago, 2 years and 2 from now,
This moment would be recurring.
.
When I’m home,
I make myself something fitting,
Watch a movie,
Warm my shivering feet
With cozy socks beneath my blanket,
Nostalgic visions send me drifting.
.
So that my last thought,
To make memories for reminiscing,
Be filled with no regrets,
I just can’t forget
To give more of my love
To this beautiful girl that I’m holding.

Author's Note:
I just discovered that my poem, Holding, was chosen as Top Story on Vocal! It was such a pleasant surprise. Thank you for seeing the value of this poem and for giving me this opportunity.
I wrote this poem on November 26, 2017. It's a poem about loving and holding yourself, even when things around you are not going the way you want them to. For a while, things got better and I subtly let go of the girl I was holding. Four years later, something happens and I feel as though I am back to square one. I held the girl for a while and things were great. I still need to hold her today. I am the only girl I have to hold for a lifetime -- I'd better start now.
