Hiding in the Shadows

Hiding in the shadows, I find my solace,

Away from the world, in a darkened palace.

The light is too bright, it hurts my eyes,

I prefer the darkness, where I can disguise.

In the shadows, I can hide my fears,

Away from judgment and critical sneers.

My secrets are safe, they can't be revealed,

The darkness promises a secure shield.

But hiding in the shadows comes at a cost,

Loneliness and isolation, it's easy to get lost.

I yearn for connection, but I'm too afraid,

To step out of the shadows, and into the light's parade.

Maybe one day, I'll find the courage,

To leave my hiding place, and break this bondage.

Until then, I'll stay in my shadowy retreat,

Where I can hide away, and feel complete.
