Here Lies the Paramedic
No more lives to save
The grave reads dear departed
Lover, teacher, friend
Here lies the Paramedic
Whose time is at an end
The dates of birth and death
Some simple loving words
Now rests the weary Paramedic
No longer needing what was learnt
No space to mention all the lives
Touched throughout the years
The hands they held and care they gave
And catching all those tears
All those whose faith and hope
Rested on those shoulders
Will never know they now have passed
As the years have made them older
Waiting now with open arms
Are the souls they saw depart
The hands they held and cried with
When there was no beating of the heart
Every smile of reassurance
Their care for one and all
Surpassing sleep and dinner
They answered every call
They attended many families
While their children ate alone
But their family are the ones that grieve
Now that they are gone
So, salute the Paramedic
Whose time has come to pass
They know more than most
That life wasn’t meant to last
Remembered by their colleagues
Mourned by those they left at home
Thought of fondly by their patients
Their name often goes unknown
My dearest Paramedic
We treated side by side
Now in times of crisis
I know my hand you’ll guide
The thousands of patients
The hundreds you saved
Will not truly know the Paramedic
Now resting in their grave
