With walls all around I stood on the ground,
wearing a frown as my hands held my crown.
I climbed up the side to look off so high,
That I might hold the sky!
Atop of the wall I beheld it all.
Then blown by the wind, I beheld it again.
I was king among men.
Then the wind blew again.
I was standing so tall… until my great fall...
I fell from so high and ground quickly came nigh.
To pieces I fell, and more pieces still,
Because my great will could not hold me still.
To pieces I fell and more pieces crumbled, though even then I could not be humbled.
My broken pieces could not be mended,
For my knees I never bended.
I wept and I sorrowed for the hours I’d borrowed.
The stage I had followed, it soon bid me swallowed.
Until I was found by Him whose name is hallowed.
Then at His feet I pleaded,
For the one thing I had needed.
And His grace, it has succeeded.
Oh His grace, it has succeeded.
About the Creator
Andrew Mark Holcomb
I've dealt with depression for a good portion of my life. I've tried a lot of things to help, but the one that seems to have the greatest long term impact is writing. I'm hoping some of my work can somehow help someone else too.
