Happy Endings

We all keep looking for it,

keep trying to find it.

We start out with it --

The belief in happy endings.

But maybe it's not about happy endings --

This is not a fairy tale, after all.

This is life,

and life is messy and dirty.

It's sad that no matter what --

It does and always will end.

So, how can endings be happy, anyway?

It's an end.

Only endings to bad things are happy,

but there will always be more badness.

So, how can we find that happy?

Perhaps, we should realize and accept it, once and for all --

That in this world, there is no such thing as happy endings.

There are, however, a million happy moments --

Sometimes, they are brief and fading,

sometimes, they last for days or even years.

But every happy moment that we get --

Every happy second of our life,

isn't that what we are striving for?

Why are we so anxious to see the end, anyway?

Who cares about happy endings?

Endings can't be happy, anyway.

Focus on happy, now,

happy tomorrow,

and the happiness of yesterday.

Isn't that what will sustain us to the end, anyway?
