Googly Eyes

Cold Stares

inside a small apartment

another day gone by

winded down to

a typical night

my stomach growled and I

opened the fridge only to find,

its contents

all had googly eyes

the milk, the juice, the fruit

all look surprised

with clear shells and

black plastic disks inside

their eyes

varying in size

not a lesson to be had

rather a moment in life

when things were hard

but we felt alright

and could laugh at ourselves

if just for a night

and laughter provided relief

to continue the fight

when it was not so easy

with no perceived end in sight

from pressure and expectations

which seem to combine

in the absence of space

and the passing of time

our problems not solved

but at the back of our minds

I’ll forever have

one little moment

to forever stay golden

a fridge full of silly and ridiculous

googly eyes 👀
