Gladiodi

By Sarah Eccles

When I was just a little kid

We planted gladioli

In a school yard garden bed,

I can't remember why.

We dug some holes and buried bulbs

And waited whilst they grew,

I thought the flowers beautiful

In every brilliant hue.

That was quite some time ago

I've flowered and I've grown

And though I love to garden still

They're not something I've sown.

So this year I bought a pack

And in the soil I hid it,

Now as I view their jewel-like tones

I remember why we did it.
