Giving Up Hope

Giving Up Hope

I opened Pandora’s box and made it mine

I’ve tasted all the fear and hate

The loathing and raging

Tangled around me like webs, like chains

But now my fingers ache, my heart is broken

For holding tight to hope

I’m letting Hope out of the box

It’s the only way one of us can have freedom

And I can’t bear to hold it anymore

I’ll settle back into the familiar futility

The complacent mediocrity surrounding me

If it’s mine, it returns, right?

So here’s to rolling the the dice

I’m giving up hope and waiting to see

If it will return to me

If you love something, set it free; if you want to let it grow stale, keep it boxed up... A nice look at love and longing and hope...
