A little music to set the mood...
This is my response to the following prompt from Rick's Vocal + Assist fb group writing challenge: This time we will write a poem of at least 100 words.
The theme of the poem is Blood Pressure and use the word Beautiful and a word that rhymes with it in the poem.

My blood pressure's rising,
My legs are surmising
Can they lift in that
Kind of position?
Sweat slickly slides,
Down dips and thick thighs,
Pooling in valleys
And navel–its mission.
My body is aching,
Feeling deeply frustrating,
No relief, no reprieve
Only this burning condition.
Oh, how to put out this flame?
Who the hell is to blame
For this crucible, so beautiful,
Tricking me into utter submission?
It's all coming back to me now,
Lying here in down-ward facing cow,
That I need to get physical
To avoid hospital admission.

A Bittersweet Recipe
This poem is dedicated to my late grandmother. We shared so much time in the kitchen together, especially making cookies. I have many of her recipes and cookie cutters which I've shared with my own children. I think of her every time we use them, and this Christmas was no different. Thank you, grandma, for the lasting memories of love and joy.
