Foxes are friends, not tricksters.

Foxes are often labelled as tricksters in mythology and metaphorical anecdotes. Truthfully, they are more often than not playful and friendly creatures that bring color into our lives.

I saw some welcoming sights the other day,

Sights of friendships between man and mother nature's children.

When people think of this, they go towards cats or dogs or other animals.

But, when I think of this, I think of the majestic and colorful fox.

The fox is an animal with the soul of a cat and the energy of a dog.

Most people would say that a fox is a fusion of both.

A type of Canidae creature, foxes are quiet and yet loud.

Red foxes make over twenty various vocalizations depending on their age, emotions, and needs.

It is quite intriguing, the nature of the four-legged vulpes.

The noises they make when they are happy around people are heartwarming and adorable.

Precious is only one word to describe this other best friend of Man.

Foxes deserve more than just to be a capitalist's next buck or a breeder's next project.

They deserve to have a save environment just as well as our beloved cats and dogs.

Most importantly, they deserve to be known as more than metaphorical tricksters.

We remember all the tales and phrases about someone being as tricky and sly as a fox.

I have always been curious as to why that is the case.

Why do we associate foxes' behaviors with manipulative deceivers?

It is true that foxes can be sneaky and sly, but that is due to their inherent need to survive the wild.

Foxes are not apex predators worldwide.

They are not the strongest, largest, or fastest among other animals such as lions, tigers, monkeys, or wolves.

Foxes learn from young to be resourceful; gathering food and slithering away in the bushes.

Foxes can be friendly companions to humans, mostly captive-bred foxes due to being genetically incompatible with the wild.

Like other domesticated animals, foxes are chatty and unique.

They love to play fetch and running circles around their humans.

Foxes are majestic singers when excited and happy and their voices can reach varying pitches and octaves.

So, why are we not seeing more positive stories and folklore about foxes?

Shouldn't foxes be more useful for metaphors than just being tricksters in sheep's clothing?

Because I certainly believe foxes are more than just tricksters and deceivers.

They are companion-loving four-legged babies in fur coats with sausage bodies,

And I for one would love to one day pet one and treasure it's happy squeal.
