Four placemats sit neatly on the small kitchen table.
They’re hardly used because no-one comes round for dinner
But she likes to have them on the table to hide some stubborn stains.
In the middle of the small kitchen table is a plant.
It’s been neglected but the dead heads have been removed
And now the plant looks more presentable, the kitchen more sophisticated.
She places her cup on a placemat on the small kitchen table.
Bubbles float about on the top of the tea and she thinks ‘that’s a sign of money coming’
And then her eye is drawn to the twinkling glass of her empty sweet jar.
