For your own good

For parents, and for those who were children

I do it for your own good

No matter how it hurts

Do what I think you should

Do it for your own good

Please don't cry, follow my example

I hold it in, pushing you away

Try harder to do what you don't want to

That's what I think you need to learn

Closing the door, please dear, watch your fingers

Don't want to feel at fault for your pain

Try harder to give up on your own plans

Cuz it's my love you have to earn

I know what's best, but no, I don't

I don't trust myself to hold you, comfort you, let you be you

Cuz all my friends, the internets, the books say

Hold yourself in, push your love away

Try harder to make her better than you

Just like she'll do when it's her turn

They do it for my own good

No matter who it hurts

I do what I think I should

For your own good
