Footprints on the Beach

Bodies are something to be cherished

And treasured

Not beaten up and broken down

But held high like the sun

A woman’s body is like the sand

Warm

And inviting

And everyone believes themselves worthy of tramping all over it

A man’s body is like the ocean

In constant battle with the sand

Over how far

Is too far

And the sand loses pieces of itself to the sea

Because it encroaches a bit more every day

From all sides

The sand is pressured into dust

And washed away like nothing happened at all

No grave site to mark the spot.

But we don’t teach

“A body is something to be respected”

We teach

“A body can either be something to take or something that is taken from you.”

We don’t teach

“Love yourself and every inch of your body, because a body is something only YOU can choose to show”

We teach

“Cover up. Right now your boobs are demanding an audience.”

How can something as precious

And as helpless

As the warm sand on a summer’s day

DEMAND

An audience

Just by existing?

The sand demands nothing

Expects nothing

And yet

Is given the blame

When there are footprints on the beach
