Footprints in the Snow

Di-da, di-da

Who? Where? When?

Di-da, di-da,

Who said snow falls without sound?

Mind you, it is no silent host

It softly clops though does not pound.

Di-da, bolder than rain, it lingers

Few more seconds before running aground

It took a fleeting liberty

Held every living creature spellbound.

The scorching foliage long yielded,

Di-da, di-da,

In pristine white all else drowned.

Dee-dum, dee-dum,

Who said the cold scares off all souls?

Men, beasts, and flora alike?

In the white open void, prints dent the snow.

Dee-dum, some creature, mortal or God

He who visits his loved hails from Sheol.

Does not show his tracks often,

Save for glimpses of an untouched world.

As crystals melt away like candles,

Dee-dum, dee-dum,

He too departs in shadows.

Di-da, di-da,

Silent he came, and silent he went

There. And not. A ghost in passing

Dee-dum, dee-dum,

The whiteout’s climax was his refuge

The tempest cleared. So did he.

Di-da,

Over a silvery sheet,

One footprint in the snow.

She sees.
