It happens in a flash

(flash fire)

White to red and back to black

(black is the absence of color and light)

Naivete is a bitch when you encounter your heart’s longing

(cunning shape shifters roam the earth)

Dreams come true, wishes are granted

(clarity is found in cliché)

Besotted by the blood and flesh of your prey

(except sobriety creeps in when the chase is complete)

Pouring out reverence at the base of your pedestal

(gods are made from that which we covet)

Begging for the scraps from your table of ardor

(the River of Tears spills into the ocean of indifference)

Until that final deathblow of complacency

(love is the most lethal of weapons)

The exit wound is how I met my end

About the Creator

MELISSA BAILEY

I've always found calmness in writing. I'm a quintessential Pisces, I feel everything and writing helps keep me grounded. As such, I write mostly poetry, but I'm spreading my wings and trying my hand at some short stories.
