Fairytales, And Other Myths

What They Don't Want You To Know

What’s past is past, now that’s the joke!

Covered up completely, with pretty lies and smoke.

Ribbons and bows with delicate lace,

like a good princess sits proper, locked in a cage.

Reality is, truth bares a view, from a very different, albeit denied page.

An old maid all alone, filled with anger and tears, regret, broken promises and rage.

Fell for the ruse of fairytales and illusions, resulting in heartaches and painful dissolutions.

To again, leave in the past,

where sleeping dogs lie.

And the fairytales live on,

until the next princess cries

It's true, that as fanciful & delightful fairytale themes might seem (especially as they're Disney-fied), they don't tend to leave much room for the princess herself. More recently we've had versions where the princess is the heroine & the prince either evil or more of a sidekick (if he exists at all). E.g., "Frozen", "Brave", etc. Stories closer to the originals (e.g., the Brothers Grimm), seem a bit closer to reality & the brutal horrors it so often brings forth.
