Why do you have that dream?

Why do you want to have that path?

Make money, make money?

Does it make money?

That job doesn’t make money.

You have to go to school for HOW long?

That’s not a real job.

Isn’t that job dying?

You have to have a fall back.

No, no, you have to have more fallbacks.

You can’t do that.

Conform.

Be a doctor, a scientist, a lawyer.

Why aren’t you an artist?

You can’t be an artist - there’s no money.

Why aren’t you a teacher?

You can’t be a teacher, they don’t get paid!

You read books? You can’t make money by reading books?

You’re making money by reading books? How?

You can’t write.

Writers don’t make money.

You should write.

Only not too much.

It can only be a hobby.

Don’t create more art than you can sell.

Sell art.

Don’t you do anything other than fan art?

You have to go to school for HOW long?

Why?

Is it worth it, really?

Four jobs? For school, to get a job that’s dying?

Get a real job.

Get a job.

Get another job.

Make more art.

Get a job so you don’t have to make art.

Finish your book!

You can’t make money off writing.

Make enough books to quit your job.

You’re good with children, you should teach.

Don’t be a teacher, it doesn’t make money.

You love to read, be a librarian!

That job is dying, isn’t it? And with a Master’s?

Get a REAL job.

Get a PAYING job.

Get ANOTHER job.

Why aren’t you listening?

Don’t you want to have a job?

Just a compilation of everything people have told me about my interests and job goals. And how it serves to contradict each other. Be yourself and follow your dreams only as long as they make money seemed to be the theme.

A lot of it has been trying to state to be an artist or author full time, even though that isn’t feasible at such an early stage of creation. Secondly, upon hearing about my goals to be a librarian, I have heard many times that it is both a dying job and doesn’t make good money. Both of which are incorrect.

The job market is rising as much as most other jobs in similar field and is a highly adaptable career. And the money depends completely on the state you work in and the funding you get. But is decently good. And yes. You need a Master’s degree.

After hearing all the echoes though, I’ve started to see how silly and wrong they are. And I’m currently making good money as a teacher - teaching about books which I loved reading - so “they” were certainly wrong about that. ;)
