Poetry about regret

We were only young back then

Didn’t know any better

Always hurting each other

Or arguing over nothing

Then we decided to drift apart

A small part of me hoped you’d come back

I always waited for the day we meet again

But I know it would never happen

We never said a word at all

An unsaid goodbye hurts so much

I’m always dreaming of the days

We held each other tightly

Or the times you’d kiss my cheek

And the days you hold my hand

When you’d drive on the highway

Roll the windows down so I could feel the wind

Or when you’d smile softly at me

While I fell in love with you

But I open my eyes and realize

We could never go back.

No matter how much I love you,

We just couldn’t be.

We were too young.
