Dec. 18 - In the Making
Poetry Advent Calendar
Each winter, my friend Carol and I get together to Make. We like to make little things to gift to the people who make a difference in our lives. We generally want to make something to brighten someone's day, something a little sweeter - though we tend to the savoury, occasionally, too. We've called ourselves the "Twisted Sisters Candy Company" and we've made everything from cookies to marmalade, candied lemon peels to pepper jelly. This year, we made Almond Dream Cakes - Almond flour cakes infused with cranberries and lemon, filled with almond cream, and topped with lemon glaze. Delightful, in the extreme. This is one of my favourite Christmas traditions.

In the Making
In the month of December stir
The desire to make with fervour
Comes time to bake with friends
Time spent together in making
As delightful as the giving
Fine sugar filled weekends
When colder becomes the weather
In kitchen we come together
Adds, mixes, stirs, and blends
To rising cookies, one attends
Now comes time, string and packaging
To greater bonds it lends
