Dancing in the rain

Dancing with the pain

Hands up in the air

But its not in prayer.

Tear stained T-shirts &

Mascara smeared faces

Scratched knees & bloody nose

Fake cries & hoarse voice.

Skid marks on the driveway

Bass pounding through the roof

Dancing in lonely arms

Embracing fading souls

Grooving to the sounds

Of the ghosts in their heads.

Running on wet sand after midnight

No glass slippers & things aren't as bright

Shadows moving across the water

Voices & whispers out of sight

Blaring out of their hallowed minds.

Pierced face and tattooed skin

Walking with the grace of unfulfilled dreams

Flushed cheeks & rushed kisses

Cares & worries thrown under the ocean

Waking up under the starless sky

In the arms of a lover

Whose last name they do not remember

Whose face they'll have forgotten by next summer.

Going through the motions

Flowing with the oceans

Howling with the wind

Screaming alongside it

With a mind that's wavering.

Dancing in the rain

Running on wet sand

Walking with the grace

Of the fateful kind.
