In the stillness of morning,
Before everything has woken,
When the day is new and unblemished,
Silence sounds fresh.
It's the color of promise, white and pure.
*
Somewhere between the setting sun
And the flicker of bulbs buzzing to life,
When the day has drawn to a close,
Triumph and regret struggle to reconcile
And the silence pulses blue and black,
Damaged a bit from the battle,
Needing balance restored.
*
And all along the points in between
As the sun chases the moon across the sky,
There are moments of silence that transform.
*
The moment when new life arrives and the world is
Paused needing to hear that first sound,
Hushed until that piercing cry reaffirms
A healthy babe is here,
The long wait is over,
A sweet bundle placed in loving arms.
The color of being
In every shade of flesh,
Glorious in its diversity.
*
But there are also the moments of silence
In remembrance.
Tears dripping off noses, screams swallowed,
Minds sinking, numb to the world.
The color of sorrow,
Of white and black mixed into
A cold, somber gray
Hoping for a warm hug and comforting word.
*
And the silence of a tender look
Passed between new lovers
Holding each others' gaze before
The line is crossed into something more.
Breaths mingling, hands wandering,
Innocence lost but a new level
Of understanding gained
Colored in with shy wonder,
In pink blushes and red lips.
*
There's the tense stillness after hateful words are
Volleyed back and forth like
Detonated bombs,
The color of angry veins,
Of stubbornness and pain,
Of ugly reds and purples
Begging for the silence to be broken
With words of forgiveness
And healing.
*
And the poignant pause with eyes brimming,
Heart beating in joy and angst,
After the swell of the finale,
When the last note fades,
And the heart and mind
Sit in awe of the flawless skills of a violinist
Until the moment is broken
To the deafening sound of thunderous applause.
The color of music,
Of radiant yellows and golds.
A symphony for the ears,
A balm for the soul.
*
And the still contemplation of
Watching rain fall,
Sitting in silence,
Comfortable with being alone,
Enough to just be.
No others, no noise, no distractions.
Just quiet reverie,
Recharging, reclaiming.
The color of self,
In swirling pale blues.
To soothe and wash away worldly troubles.
*
These soundless pauses,
These pregnant moments of
Breath held,
Pain swelling,
Joy overwhelming,
Fear stifling,
Love flowing,
Serenity achieved.
All the shades of life,
In colors of silence.

Colors of silence Weird how this phenomenon stills reigns Supreme, as if almost defiant Colors of silence Some are pure Some allure Some are poor Some are gore Colors of silence Shades and hues with which the eyes cannot perceive Sometimes it's in our ears nonstop deafening the noise, a constant ring Colors of silence Like when walking into a room full of art Colors are like, colors are dull, yet they all do the same thing, they make the room full Colors of silence Some people beg for it Some people wish to make it stop Some can pause the music Others cannot escape the auditorium Colors of silence Is it a prison? Is it freedom? Colors of silence We need its balance We need it's existence Yet if it's something we need and fear so badly, why do we try to drown it out with such persistence?
Another masterful poem Heather. Liked, insight'd and commented.
So easy to get lost in the colours; starting with the art and then complemented by every sentence!
Melancholy with hints of joy. I enjoyed the contrast. Beautiful work!
Awesome ✨ 💙💚💜💕

Oooof! Right in the feels! Especially that description of waiting for that first baby cry 😢 ❤️
This is really great!
There is so much to love and unpack here. I love the visuals you create for each setting/situation. The way you use colours for emotions and just. Yes, you've done a good one. I'm impressed yet again! Some words I love that you used, because I'm a word geek - "reverie" "The color of promise, white and pure." "Triumph and regret struggle to reconcile" "There are moments of silence that transform" "The color of angry veins" Just...yeah...so much to love. Well done!
