I played chess this morning.

We played chess this morning over coffee. I got sloppy waiting to take a turn. I had a vape and let it burn slow. Nicotine was a mistake normally it’s an advantage though this time it burnt me out, it gave me an unneeded rush. She beat me.

Her dad took over.

“Winner stays on” is what she said.

He left.

He showed us castling.

We went to play again. I set the board.

I made beans.

She called a friend in a new relationship. We haven’t met the partner yet. We phoned. She didn’t answer.

Trying to get hold of her. We’re playing chess in a different way now.

Videos are being sent on social medias.

Broken conversations.

Broken moves of chess again.

It reminds me of boxing. An eye for an eye.

I remember kids playing it in sixth form.

All types.

It’s a strange game played around rap battles.

I didn’t play chess.

I play it now.

In coffee shops and libraries.

I play it with partners and friends.

The same coffee shop with all of them.

I prefer checkers. It’s a quicker game.

For my apparently ADHD brain.

Sometimes the move take too long to play.

Anyway.

There you go.

Thats just how chess goes.
