When I was a girl,

Oh, how I did dread

the little spider who hovered above my bed.

although snuggled warm in the safety of my covers,

It dangled above me,

and gave me such a fright,

When my hand reached out into the darkness,

I couldn't find the light!

As quick as I could I covered myself from head to toe

in case the spider decided to land on my nose.

Since then, I've realized that

spiders are like you and me,

we all want to live happy and free.

That little spider is long gone now,

but I'm reminded of Charlotte

and hundreds of her babies born at the Zuckerman Farm.

I wonder if my spider had children and are they still spinning their yarn?

Two short clips from Charlotte's web

So sweet! I love Charlotte's web - and last night I also had a spider on my bed! 🕷

A teacher read it to us when I was a child, and I still love that very complex tale told very simply. And I like this poem a great deal (my place is full of spiders and I consider them friendly companions...who owe me rent). ;)

I loved this book by E.B. White. Charlotte is a spider that cared about everyone. She was the ultimate counselor.
