One trip that changed my life

Photo by Liv Bruce on Unsplash

In a city called Perth

Was a place called home,

I travelled to Broome

To be on my own.

By leaving Perth

I left behind,

The troubles, the traumas

Of an unsettled mind.

In Broome the days spent

Lazing and soaking up the sun,

My friend and I so intent

In relaxing and having fun.

Thought we’d try some fishing

Done everything else there was to do,

That one beautiful day on the wharf

Changed my whole life through.

I met a guy that very day

He was wonderful and kind,

A guy I’d been searching for

And never thought I’d find.

This great looking guy on the wharf

Fishing in shirts and hat,

I gladly accepted his invite

When asked to stay at his flat.

Stayed a few days

Left in a flash,

My love for him scared me

Back to Perth I dashed.

The letters and phone calls

Were next to start,

My heart was now breaking

We were too far apart.

He left Broome to find me

And tell me he cares,

Then brought me on back

For his life to share.

He asked me to marry him

I gladly said yes,

He made my life happy

It was such a mess.

We’ve come a long way

Since the day we met,

He has the power

To make me forget.

The past is now gone

The future holds more,

The days are for us

And the future in store.
