From Robert Lee Brewer's blog, Poetic Asides, "For today's prompt, write a trap poem."
Cat and Mouse
Really, it's the perfect setup
because it knows where to find its prey;
carelessly gathered in groups, scurrying
in search of a meal, foraging
for the things needed
to bring back
to the nest.
There is neither safety nor strength
in numbers now. Instead,
vulnerability in numbers
where it takes what it came for:
one by one
by tens of thousands.
It has set the perfect trap
(poor, poor little mousie)
and there is no escaping
(hide little mouse, hide)
this game of cat and mouse.
