castles in heaven

i used to build my dreams around you

like castles around the both of us.

brick by brick breaking my back,

for a future that looked like heaven,

until i came to realize i built them all alone.

not once, did you sincerely break down your walls,

yet all the cracks in mine let my heart seep through.

i allowed the illusion of me and you,

to consume the world the way i knew it.

you became like a ghost,

who haunted my thoughts, 'till i saw nothing else.

in the blind rage those castles burned,

like ashes to the ground.

from them, alone i rose.

with walls of my own.

walls which shall never break down

in the presence of you

ever again.
