Canyon Reflections
Sunset - Eagle Point, Grand Canyon West
The earth finds pleasure
In sculpting
Its outcroppings -
In chiseling rocks
Of eagles taking flight
Or carving pyramids
Of red sandstone
Balancing them
On tiered layers
Of shale and lime
Each sedimentary rock
Wrapped in the blush of day
Brushed with gold flecks
Daubed in garnet
Rocky strongholds molded
Over time
Washed clean
By the heavens
Softened
Revered
Where ancient truths live
Where immortality
Ponders
And eternity ignites
A gentle fire
Glowing in thoughts
Like a first frost
Casting a deep reflection –
The embers
Like the silence of recollection -
Fonts of light
That cherish mystery
And memory
That vanish briefly
To make room
For those musings
That cannot be diminished
By time
