Broken Table, Broken Chair
A poem dedicated to all of us struggling due to COVID-19
Broken table, broken chair,
Broken heart, soul’s not there,
Broken family, broken home,
Every morning is the unknown,
Broken spirit, breaking mind,
I need to live,
Stay gentle, be kind,
Are you here to hurt me?
Please don’t ask,
Just let me cry,
Just let time pass,
The sink is clogged,
That bill is due,
My kids are bored,
I’m concerned, are you?
I’ve forgotten what it’s like to get paid,
I’m surprised I haven’t started to fade,
From view, are you...sure you’re okay?
And this one was due yesterday,
The air is thick with tears,
The sky is nearly black,
Morning never comes,
My brain is going slack,
Nothing is as it was when I was born,
Friendships flickering, lives torn,
Broken table, broken chair,
Step back from the future,
I’m not there.
