Branches of our Bloodline

When family members abandon their roots

The roots of the family tree

Are meant to withstand

The strongest winds

And the most brutal storms

But when the sun sets early

On the branches of our bloodline

The chilly gusts

Whisper family secrets

Taking faded leaves farther away

Every year the autumn blaze

Burst vivid decays

Some families come closer together

While others are strained

I always thought

That a holiday of sentiment

Was a story that belonged

To someone else's family

But with many more trips around the sun

And silence growing between one another

That story belongs to my family too

When branches break

And sisters behave like strangers

There are less seats around the table

But our tree remains the same
