Boss Tom Cat

From the perspective of a cat

I roam the streets of my territory as the Boss Tom Cat

Wandering from Hooman house to Hooman house at will,

This house feeds me my favourite ham and that one my milk

While the one down the road cooks and shares their best grill.

***

I’ve been the Boss Tom Cat of this area since my Hooman owners

Abandoned me many years ago, not that I can complain,

As I’m spoilt by any number of houses along this street

They are a part of my domain, even if they don’t know my name.

***

Recently a new Hooman family has moved into my territory

A mother with her son, but they seem very friendly,

So I strolled on around to visit to get the lay of the land

Obviously feline lovers as they tried to befriend me.

***

I did like this new family, so started to visit more often

At times I would stay all day allowing them to pat and feed me,

There were the best sleeping places in the sun or the shade

And these Hoomans’ would play but knew when to let me be.

***

After about a year of visiting this family once or twice a week

I was convinced they were good Hoomans’ and not just acting,

So I made up my mind that they could become my new slaves

Although I’d need to teach them the skills in which they’re lacking.

***

Slowly I was introducing them to the world of hunting their prey

By bringing them delicious lizards and rats in which I’d killed,

It was baffling to me though as I never saw any gratitude

What more did they want from me when it’s clear they’re unskilled.

***

Now that I’ve adopted my permanent Hooman slaves

I allowed them to give me a new name that I’d answer too,

As I couldn’t or wouldn’t tell them my old pathetic name

That my original slaves labelled me, without my point of view.

***

Sadly my new Hoomans’ are hopeless at protecting themselves

So I can happily laze around the house and sleep all day,

But the minute that big yellow ball falls out of the sky

I’m off outside to keep guard, scaring all the other cats away.

***

The homeless cat and dog population in my territory

Need to learn that, just because I’ve chosen my forever home,

Doesn’t mean they can take over my territory or my Hoomans’

I’ll always be the Boss Tom Cat of all this area that I roam.

Great story! I love cats and I found Boss Tom Cat very entertaining and authentic. It is good that you took the time to comment about all the homeless cats and dogs who need to find their own hooman slaves. Ha! Ha!
