Here, in the present
The light of day dims
Into the soft folds
Of shadows, shadows
That capture and lull
The music, so beautiful
Like a momentary glimmer -
Sharp yet indistinct
In the shade of yesteryear
Where love finds a tune
And the heart beats
Freely
Where the world dazzles
The senses
And everything shines
With expectation
Where has time gone?
How did it evade me?
Now I live in that world
That future –
Once imagined
Remembering instead
What life once meant
The essence of youth
Subtly felt
Like the cool rustle
Of autumn
Intoxicating
Yet distant
And sad
Time leaves its mark
On the soul
Like the pink of a sun
Painted
Just before darkness
Just before it is time
To go home
