Bird's Eye View

Come Down Now, They'll Say

How high?

.

High enough that cities at night look like motherboard circuitry

.

That rolling farmland looks like a patchwork quilt

.

And the ocean looks like our impending doom

.

.

.

How high?

.

Higher

.

High enough that there's only the top of the cloud

.

And it's thick enough to walk on

.

A woolly blanket swaddling the entire planet

.

.

.

High enough to turn the universe into a fractal

.

To simplify the messy into patterns beautifully essential

.

To make feelings of cosmic oneness inevitable

.

.

It almost makes me wish

I hadn't jammed my parachute

But the instructor doesn't know

They'll still push me out on 2

So when the roar comes rushing

Leaving naught but tearing air

As I leave my literal impact on this earth

I'll be grateful for that final bird's eye view
