Created in love and in care, we believe this place is safe.
We bring our leaves and our feathers to build a home.
Taking little care of the metal poles around us.
We are free.

The door is always open.
There is plenty of food.
We are protected and safe.
We are free.

We lie in our beds.
Bellies full and nourished.
We look past our poles and see.
There are others outside.
We are free.

Slowly walking towards the always open door.
Those outside are happy.
They are flying.
Suddenly the urge to be with other happy birds fills our chest.
Inching closer to the door.
Are they free?

Surely not.
They have no home, no food.
They are flying outside.
Are they free?

Let us join them.
Let us show them our home.
Inching closer to the exit, the door shuts.
The door that was always open.
Why is it closed?

Let us out!
We must join the others.
We must show them what freedom is.
We need to be free!

No matter how much we shout.
No matter how much we pull and push.
The door wont open.
Is this our price for freedom?

We now must stay
We can't go outside.
But we are safe.
We have food and shelter.
Are we free?
