Beyond the Senses

an indulgent sonnet

Within the hurricane eye of my mind

is the place where I build my poetry.

Indulge me, read my words and you will find

the stillness that shapes this reality.

It’s the quiet place underneath the sound

of everything I’m hearing, even now.

It cannot be seen; mortal eyes are bound

by laws that bind, that simply don’t allow

seeing the space in front of any thing.

My nose - no help at all. Try as I might

to snatch it from its place of rest and wring

meaning from it, I always lose that fight.

But when I stop and go inside the thought,

it’s clearer than my senses ever wrought.
