Beltane by the River

sonnet #2

By all accounts, spring is here to stay

the grass is lovely green, the trees, new leaves

caterpillars are coming out to play

the weeping willow stoic as she grieves.

Dandelions bright yellow, poppies red

young brave finch hops close and close toward me

lovers sharing a picnic, blanket spread

the flowers in my hair attract a bee.

laughter floats from a nearby balcony

doors flung wide, shades pulled way back.

this by far the best time of year, to me

the river ever flowing, the ducks quack.

Oh, Beltane, Beltane, how pleasant you be

to new beginnings, new life this spring.
