Below the Surface

A Poem

On the shoreline the seabirds sing

The peaceful waves caress the sand

On the water the boat bells ring

But nothing can see what’s below the land

As the sailors bring in their loaded nets

And the pelicans soar and dive deep down

As the children gaze while the horizon sets

Nobody can see the wreckage drowned

Know that deep below the waters

Where the darkest silence reigns

That is where you’ll spot her

Where she sits alone in pain

Laying in her cold demise

She weeps as she rests

All the absent goodbyes

And the chances she possessed

Nobody knew that such a smooth vessel fell

They always said she would endure

The strongest storms, even nights through hell

It seemed they didn’t really know for sure

So remember, as you see the ocean

Know that she’s down there

And know that she cries all alone

Because of that night she couldn’t bear
