• Beauty hurts •

I was once obsessed in beauty,

Carelessly allowed my ears to catch words of hate,

So the burning urge of letting myself starve,

Slowly growing each day as I barely ate.

I can't help it but wanting more,

I suffered my body for others' satisfaction,

It was so for others to like me a little more,

Greedy for perfection and attentions.

But my friend once told me,

Wait a minute and stare at the mirror,

Look at what you've become,

Fatigued eyes, pale skin and a weak smile over your face.

Beauty hurts, she said.

Why would you put yourself through pain?

Just for slight happiness that you could possibly gain?

Was that really what you thought your life worth?

And why were you obsessed in beauty on the outside,

When all you've was an ugly heart on the inside?
