The coniferous tree that's really stunted,

Above all others is the spruce.

Down, down, down into the darkness of the spruce,

Gently it goes - the inferior, the scrubby, the scrawny.

Seedlings, however hard they try,

Will always be tall.

Never forget the gangling and stately seedlings.

evergreens are not big!

evergreens are exceptionally narrow.

Now lesser is just the thing,

To get me wondering if evergreens are narrow.

How happy are cunning flowers!

Are you upset by how crafty they are?

Does it tear you apart to see the flowers so adroit?

How happy are stately spruces!

Are you upset by how impressive they are?

Does it tear you apart to see the spruces so baronial?

I saw the the weed emplacement of my generation destroyed,

How I mourned the planting.

Does the planting make you shiver?

does it?
