Baseball

A sonnet of the greatest game

Baseball

Secret signs shaking off until the nod.

Crack of the bat and white streaks through the air,

Dropping down and rolling across the sod.

The runner crosses first, but is held there.

The team moves around the diamond in sync,

A rehearsed troupe improvising their dance.

Our outfielder scooped up the ball with a wink,

Set to throw so the runner had no chance.

The happy fans cheer, chant, whistle, and wave

As the pitcher delivers a strikeout.

The inning over, that was a nice save,

Now the home team needs to knock a few out.

With a little luck, you’ll catch a foul ball.

Baseball is the greatest game of them all.
