Astral Companion

Poems while you're away

I walk this alien ridge

A step then the next

In silence

My steps echo an odd beat

Behind me a vast river

Surging random currents

The billions of forks I'd taken to walk here

All uncharted for lack of mind

Before me a greyscape

My exhalations stir the grey into place

Neutrality explodes new light

Of my breath

And my future grows certainly shorter

The rhythm finds a syncopation

A slightly off step

The new beats keep stranger time

Yet still echo

And I know

When I look beside me

The river and grey dissolve

And there is

A copper sunset

Calling up the blooming orchids

From between my feet

And I could stare at the world beside me
