As It Turns Out

A Poem

Title piece for my collection ‘As It Turns Out’

Just friends so I shouldn’t miss you,

You did me wrong,

Even more reason not too,

Your first mistake was not bothering to appreciate

The times we had,

They were happy while they lasted,

Crushing truths came out to play,

In agony trying to find a friend

As it turns out,

It was over before it was over

Bringing myself to have that conversation was the hardest thing to do in knowing you

I wish I could get back the air in my lungs;

I put so much of it to waste trying to explain my thoughts

So, as it turns out, it was all pretty bad

Still loving you,

We continued to do what we do,

And I kept giving myself to you

By loving you,

I was losing me a little more by you,

You can’t say I didn’t try, though

We went high, and we ended up low
