And the world continues to turn

a poem

The words “I love you”

Is sung with passion

Just as “I hate you”

Is muttered under someone’s breath

A woman zips up her black dress with shaky hands

Hiding her tear stained eyes behind dark sunglasses

As another stands excitedly as her white dress is tied

Her shaky hands holding a beautiful bouquet

A mother stares at the grass that’s unbearably green

Under a sun that holds too much light

On a dark day while her first born is buried

While another mother coddles her crying infant

Staring into his eyes that are unbearably green

Under a sun that holds so many years of a future

A couple excitedly unlocks the red door to their first home

Admiring the new beginning that unfolds before them

A place to create a future together

While another couple grips on tight to each other’s arms

As they watch their first home disappear with fearful eyes

Devastated by the future that has been taken from them

Tragedy strikes in this lifetime

Just as miracles play

And the world continues to turn
