A late night thoughts companion

She was everyones anchor

so she stayed at the bottom of the ocean

drowning

No one to hear her screams underwater

just the sight of bubbles popping on the surface

Her lungs burned

but she couldn't break the rusty chains holding her down

She wanted rest

A place where she could lay her head when she was tired

wrapped in arms that would pull her exhausted body to the surface

and bring a sliver of oxygen passed her lips.

maybe for just a moment she'd feel the warm brush of sunlight against

her cheeks

But if there were such a person they'd drown where she once stood

Instead, she'll have to break the chains

learn how to swim

bear the waves that knock her back down

And even when she's tired

and her skin is nothing but prunes

she'll still swim to shore

Because an anchor keeps you in place

but she decided to trade the bottom of the ocean

for a chance at flying through the sky
