Alone

I hope you’ll one day forgive

As night seeps in to end the day

I find myself once more alone,

I struggle with my solitude now

As my heart has turned to stone.

***

I cry at the world’s unfairness

Was this my fault or was it fate,

The natural sounds once loved

Now fills my heart with hate.

***

A cat’s meow breaks the silence

An answer in kind fills the air,

A bird takes up the chorus

How I feel, they neither care.

***

I sit here and I think and ponder

Do you feel any of this pain,

Or has your love totally vanished

No chance of coming back again.

***

I will stay and endure my loneliness

As it will give me the strength to live,

I’ll also pray to the Universe

That you’ll find a way to forgive.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
