Dad fished the big waves

and the babbling brooks too

Hopeful for a bite

--------------------------------

Ankles deep sand dunes

at Nag's Head where flight seemed real

we settled for kites

---------------------------------

My window fan sucked

in the hot sticky night air

my sheets a ghost, ah!

---------------------------------

I light a candle

Speak to the flame like it's you

cry, pray, it's not real
