A Real Man
A real man has to be a man
He was told as a boy
But what is a man he would ask
A real man should never cry
*****
Even in the worst of times
Don’t listen to her talk
Her foolish, stupid ideas
Be a man, stand up and walk
*****
Walk away from pain he said
Push it down; you’re fine
Don’t you be a girly boy
You’re not hers; you’re mine
*****
“I’m the man!” He would always yell
Before the slapping sounds
Her crying plea’s carried up the stairs
And in his head would pound
*****
The growing boy runs down the stairs
And drops to her side
Trying his best to help her stand
Fire running from his eyes
*****
The man yells, don’t you help her boy
She’ll get up on her own
She got what she deserved
Leave her the hell alone
*****
All things grow and change, it’s said
This boy will do all he can
To grow into what he wants to be
For her, he’ll be a man
******
10 years on and stronger now
Helping her from the floor
He said; don’t you help her boy
A real man yelled; “no more!”
*****
For years the boy saw what he did
Through eyes filled with rage
His anger growing evermore
As his mind and body changed
*****
Standing over, above him
As he lay on the floor
A real man said;
“I’m telling you now,
You will touch her nevermore.”
